VOLUNTEERISM

“The organization is only as strong as the collective spirit of its members” Dr.N.Iyngkaran

Volunteerism is not an easy and readily available commodity. It is a highly prized virtue that we respect and value.  Our attitude to volunteers is one of unqualified respect and awe.  We will meet their requests with quiet spontaneity but within the limitations of our resources.  This should not be misconstrued as callousness.  Only if we soil our hands will we know what voluntary social work is.  All CHILD trustees are devoted volunteers of CHILD who despite their heavy commitments to their professions find the time to assist in raising funds and standing by us in our time of need.

Dr Thillainathan deserves a special word of appreciation.  He is the prime mover of the egalitarian volunteer movement of professionals that began with EWRF in the late seventies, to address socio-economic issues of the community.  He remains committed to the cause with unabashed enthusiasm and dignified detachment. He has been the fund raising  pillar for CHILD all these years. We are indebted to Mr Krishnabahawan and the late Mr Mayandi for their dedicated efforts in assembling and supervising the team that prepared preschool teachers’ guides and pupil teaching material for preschools funded by CCI.  We are delighted with Mr Navaselvarajah volunteering his services as Chairman of Fundraising and Mr Murugiah for setting up the Easy Payment Donation Scheme. Jean, as he is affectionately called is the youngest Trustee.   He has brought with him a breath of fresh air, an infectious smile to the movement and professional efficiency to the accounts.
